Report a calculator or data correction

For a calculator issue, include the page URL and the inputs you entered: system size, installed cost, annual electricity use, electricity rate, expected production, incentives, financing assumptions, and any other values that affected the result. Include the displayed result and the result you expected. This makes it possible to distinguish a calculation error from a difference in assumptions.

For state, utility, incentive, or electricity-price information, name the location and link to the current source record. Helpful records include an official utility tariff, public-utility commission filing, government program page, DSIRE entry, EIA table, or NREL resource. Note the effective date, eligibility rule, rate class, or program version that supports the correction. Screenshots may help explain a problem, but a source URL and publication date provide a stronger verification trail.

Broken links and technical problems

If a page does not load, a control does not work, or the layout hides important information, include the URL, device type, browser, and the steps that led to the issue. For a broken external link, identify both the Solar Payback page and the missing destination. Do not send account credentials, payment details, tax documents, or other sensitive personal information.

Safety and decision guidance

Results on this site are planning estimates, not a contractor quote, engineering design, performance guarantee, tax opinion, or legal advice. Confirm roof condition, structural loading, electrical work, permits, interconnection requirements, equipment specifications, and incentive eligibility with qualified professionals and the relevant utility or public authority before making a purchase. Electrical or fire hazards require an electrician, installer, utility, or emergency service as appropriate; do not rely on email to handle an urgent safety issue.

Editorial and commercial inquiries

Press questions, requests to cite the site, and proposals involving a data source may use the same email. Clearly identify any commercial interest and the pages affected. Payment or sponsorship does not buy a calculator result, data change, or favorable editorial treatment. The site does not sell contact details or send inquiries to solar installers.
